PORTSMOUTH — Federal benefits administrator FedPoint announces that the application window for its annual nursing scholarships opened on Monday, Jan. 22. The company will award four $5,000 scholarships for the second straight year, with recipients to be announced in May during National Nurses Week, which occurs from May 6-12.

To be eligible for the merit-based scholarships, candidates must be graduating high school seniors who will be attending an accredited nursing program in the fall of 2024. Applicants must reside in New Hampshire, Maine or Massachusetts. Additional details about the scholarship, eligibility requirements, decision criteria and important dates are available at

FedPoint believes a strong community begins, in part, with dedicated first responders—especially highly skilled nurses. As the administrator of the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP), FedPoint employs several dozen registered nurses who provide care coordination and planning services for claimants and their family members.

For these reasons, the company introduced the nursing scholarship to help promote nursing as a highly rewarding career and help strengthen the future nursing workforce in northern New England and beyond.

“The scholarships are a way to recognize, support and thank those choosing to enter a profession that not only revolves around caring for others, but also doing so under what can often be difficult and stressful circumstances,” said FedPoint CEO Paul Forte. “Through these scholarships, we hope to attract new candidates to the profession, help smooth their path financially and show our ongoing respect and gratitude to young people who choose to make their living by caring for others.”

FedPoint awarded the inaugural nursing scholarships in 2023. The four recipients stood out in a field of more than 100 applicants, all demonstrating strong work ethic, a passion for community, academic rigor, and a heartfelt desire to help improve the lives of others.

The 2023 awardees were Emily Roberge of Somersworth, N.H., Grace McHugh of Concord, N.H., Marisa Behl of Georgetown, Mass., and Maya Barthel of Nottingham, N.H.

“We were amazed and reassured by the quality of the candidates we heard from last year,” said FedPoint’s Director of Care Coordination Marilyn Staff, RN. “The submissions spoke of a younger generation driven by academic excellence, community focus and a passion for the medical profession. Helping jump-start their educational journeys through scholarships like these is the least we can do.”

The application deadline for the 2024 FedPoint Nursing Scholarship is Friday, March 8, 2024. The scholarship review panel will include members of FedPoint’s own care coordination team as well as nurses from the Cornerstone Visiting Nurse Association.
